The Park has a fair representation of all peninsular mammals such as Tiger, Leopard, Wild Dog, Elephant, Gaur, Sambar, Barking Deer, Nilgiri Tahr etc. The Park also has a considerable population of small mammals like Civets and the Nilgiri Marren. There are around 28 Tribal hamlets in Silent Valley National Park.
